Asnes

Asnes

Åsnes is a historic Norwegian ski brand with a rich legacy that stretches back over a century to the early 20th century.
In 1910 the oldest of the Åsnes brothers went to Christiania (now Oslo) to learn ski production, eventually leading to most of the brothers working at the Hagen ski factory by 1913.
In 1922, two Åsnes brothers founded their own ski production at Straumsnes in Norway, labeling their skis “Brødrene Åsnes skifabrikk.”
For the first decade Asnes skis were made in an old barn dating from 1696, before moving to a purpose-built new factory on the family farm.

Åsnes grew steadily, producing rugged skis designed to meet the rugged needs of Norwegian skiers, gaining recognition for durable, high-quality.
In the early 1980s, Åsnes pioneered the development of steel-edged fiberglass skis and capitalized on the growing popularity of Telemark skiing.
Backcountry skiing is a national sport in Norway and Åsnes has evolved into a market leader specialized in backcountry nordic touring skis, referred to in Norway as “fjellski.”
Today, although production is largely conducted in the Czech Republic and Sweden, the design and development remain in Norway, guided by the third generation of the Åsnes family.

Åsnes has been the preferred brand for many Arctic and Antarctic explorations from as early as the 1980s, and their skis are reknowned fortheir durability and functionality in extreme conditions. The company proudly describes its testing grounds as the North and South Poles, along with other Arctic regions, highlighting the skis’ capability to withstand years of hard use in some of the world’s most challenging environments.

Åsnes produces skis with both smooth waxing bases and "waxless" fish-scale bases and a key innovation from Åsnes is their patented short skin or “kicker skin” system.
Introduced in 2003, these short skins can be easily added and removed and this system enhances uphill grip and downhill performance for backcountry skiing.
As alpine touring boots and bindings have become ever lighter, Åsnes has started producing lightweight alpine touring skis such as the Rab 68 and the Nosi 76.

Åsnes continues to thrive as a symbol of Norwegian skiing heritage, sustained by a blend of family tradition, state-of-the-art design, and a deep connection to nature and exploration.
