ATK

Although less than 20 years old, ATK is the market leader for ski touring bindings, offering cutting-edge models for every type of ski tourer, from skimo racer, classic tourer or backcountry freeriders.
ATK was founded in 2007 in Fiorano Modenese in northern Italy by Giovanni and Guerrina Indulti. Giovanni had previously managed GIMEC, a high-precision CNC mechanical workshop producing components for various industries such as ceramics, packaging, and automotive.

Neither Giovanni nor Guerrina were experts in ski mountaineering, but their interest was piqued when a local ski touring enthusiast brought an old touring binding to their workshop, asking if they could improve its heavy and cumbersome design. This challenge sparked the beginning of ATK’s journey into ski bindings. Recognizing a decade-long gap in innovation in binding technology, the founders focused on developing bindings that were exceptionally light yet offered superior performance. By 2009, just three years after starting, ATK had developed their groundbreaking Race-NX binding - a product that quickly earned respect for its lightweight construction and success in skimo competitions.

The company’s philosophy, “Performing Through Lightness,” underscores every binding they make. ATK bindings are renowned for combining precision engineering, innovative mechanical design, and ultralight weight. This approach creates bindings that enhance both the ascent and descent, allowing skiers to enjoy backcountry touring and ski mountaineering with minimal weight while maintaining reliability and safety.

ATK’s binders are made using advanced CNC machined aircraft-grade aluminium. One of their key innovations is the patented cam release system that provides easy step-in, excellent boot retention, and release mechanics that are both reliable and lightweight. The cleverly designed cam profile manages release values with precision, balancing safety with performance.

After initially concentrating on race bindings, ATK gradually expanded into backcountry freeski and touring markets, driven by Davide Indulti (Giovanni and Guerrina’s son), who shifted the company’s focus from pure racing to a wider range of ski touring styles. Today, ATK offers an array of bindings suitable for racing, free touring, and backcountry freeride skiing, with their products frequently seen on champions’ feet across various ski mountaineering disciplines.

ATK’s success is attributed to its passionate family roots, relentless innovation, and precision engineering reminiscent of Italy’s legendary Motor Valley, home to Ferrari and Lamborghini. Though a young company, ATK bindings have quickly risen to become the leading brand in the ski touring and ski mountaineering community worldwide, producing some of the lightest, most reliable, and best-performing tech bindings for backcountry skiing.
