Stockli position the Montero series as being all mountain skis that sit between the pure piste carving Laser models and the freeride Stormrider skis. Compared to the Laser series, the Montero AX is just a little wider providing a more stable platform underfoot that works well in a wider range of conditions, while still carving with aplomb. 80 mm underfoot is a great width for performance piste skiing in all conditions, and the Montero AX makes superb GS turns, stable and reactive howver hard you push. A great carver. Great fun whether mounted with alpine or telemark bindings, the Montero AX is not a race ski but an excellent all mountain carver, with far more versatility and providing far more fun than true race skis. Highly recommended.
Rocker The gradual bending of the ski at its tip and tail is called the rocker. Stockli modifies the rocker according to the type of ski. Typically, the longer and more pronounced the rocker, the more lift is generated and the more responsive and easy-turning ski becomes. Light Core and Super-Light Core Particularly light European wood species are deployed in the all-mountain, freeride/off-piste and touring segments. This makes the core a little softer and suppler, which lends the ski dynamism and makes it very durable. Solid Metal Edge Light Same edge width as the SME. Amodified die-cutting procedure, however, means the edge is inserted less deeply into the ski, which saves weight. Tail Rocker Rocker: A longer rocker at the tail with a flatter radius. Full Edge Contact The widest points of the ski are set further forward or back. This makes the shovel grip faster and the part of the edge in contact with the snow when the ski is tilted becomes longer. Adaptive Contact Length The widest point on the shovel is set further forward. Together with a slight rocker ( more gradual up-bend of the shovel), the more the ski is tilted, the further forward the contact point of the edge with the snow moves. This preserves its nimble characteristics without sacrificing stability and grip during the turn.
