The widest ski in Atomic's Backland ski touring series, the Backland 109 is designed for confident, big mountain, backcountry skiing and has been built using materials to minimize carbon emissions as much as possible. The Backland 109's core has Atomic's FreeTour Profile which involves using more poplar wood and less metal, less fiberglass and less resin to create a more harmonious flex pattern for lively performance. By using more lower-carbon raw materials, the design reduces environmental waste and cuts CO2 equivalent emissions by 26% (compared with the Backland 100, 2022) The Backland 109 has a generous 109mm underfoot providing stability in soft snow while the lightweight HRZN 3D tip produces more float in deep snow and provides intuitive turn initiation. A poplar and caruba Ultra Light Woodcore offers the ideal balance of low weight with optimum performance while the full ash wood inlay provides added security under the binding. Powder Rocker delivers a pronounced tip and tail with camber underfoot for effortless, playful maneuverability in powder, crud, chopped up conditions. Wide yet light, the Backland 109 weighs in at only just over 3 kg / pair (180 cm), letting you climb efficiently despite the width. Built with the latest design concepts and more environmentally friendly materials, the Backland 109 offers a perfect balance of low weight and soft snow performance making this the ultimate free-rando powder ski.
