New bindings for 2027, the Marker Alpinist Free have a wider toe unit than the regular Alpinist bindings to provide greater torsional rigidty and control when skiing wider skis. The same toe unit is also now suppled with the Marker Kingpin freerando bindings. While the standard Alpinist toe unit has a footprint only 60 mm wide at the back, 45 mm wide in the centre and 70 mm ar the front, the Alpinist Free toe unit has a 76 mm wide footprint front front to back, providing a much wider and stable platform. Hole spacing remains the same as that of the regular Alpinist bindings. The new wider design only adds 10 g to the weight of the toe unit which now weighs 170 g per ski. Built of light yet extremely rigid carbon-reinforced plastic, the Marker Free toe units offer simple and rapid step-in with the pins snapping shut as soon as the boot touches the toe unit. The heel unit stays the same apart from the new release range of 6-13 DIN and offers a choice of three climbing positions in walk mode, 0°, 5° & 9° and 35 mm of boot sole length adjustment (+17.5 mm / -17.5 mm) - 20 mm more than the regular Alpinist bindings. The heel unit of the Alpinist Free has a small amount of flex compensation, helping to provide reliable release and avoid pre-release when the ski flexes. The Alpinist Free 13 weighs in at only 395 g per ski, 790 g a pair including 105 mm wide ski brakes and delivers noticeably improved force transmission and ski performance thanks to the new wider toe unit footprint. Marker have upgraded the ski brake plate for the Alpinist Free bindings. While the ski/walk mechanism stays the same with the rather fiddly parallel bars passing through the heel unit, the brake plate is longer and wider, providing better contact with the ski boot soles. To optimise brake release Marker supply the bindings with a choice of three brake plate heights - plastic plates that can easily be swapped out - and a spacer to determine the plate required. The Alpinist Free 13 offers low weight, ease of use and good control and is a great choice for skiers wanting both low weight and freeride downhill performance.
Length Adjustment: The Alpinist Free heel offers 35 mm heel adjustment range (-17.5mm to + 17,5 mm). Alpinist Climbing Aids: Neutral walking mode and two climbing aids offering 5° and 9°. The fast shift mode enables quick shifting between 0° and 9° without the need to rotate the heel. Anti Ice Pads: Anti Ice Pads in the base of toe and heel (if no brake is installed) to prevent icing in critical areas. Active length Compensation: Active length compensation in the heel allowing the heel to move back up to 4 mm when the ski is flexed. Crampon Kingpin/Alpinist: Easy to install crampons for the Kingpin and Alpinist bindings are available in widths 80mm, 90mm, 105mm and 120mm. ISI Toe: The ISI toe ensures that you'll be able to get in and out of the toe really quickly and easily. Ski Brakes: New ski brakes with a wider brake plate and choice of thicknesses to optimise boot-brake contact. Ski brake width 105 mm
